Putting in a V8 in a Chevy S10 is an easy process as engine swaps go. There’s loads of room and there are few modifications needed. An engine conversion package might be wanted, and you’ll find one at most pace retailers. It consists of frame motor mount extensions and shorty exhaust headers. The body mounts reposition the motor mounts and the exhaust is specifically made to permit the steering shaft to go through it.
Chevy S10 Engine V8 Installation Instructions
1. Place the motor mount extensions on the present body motor mounts and bolt them down securely with a socket. Set up the transmission on the engine, using the suitable sockets.
2. Set up the engine and transmission as a unit, using the engine hoist. Sit the engine within the motor mount extensions and insert the engine mount bolt. Tighten with a socket and wrench.
3. Place the ground jack beneath the tailshaft of the transmission and raise it sufficient to put the crossmember under the transmission mount. Simply let it lie on the body for now till the truck is raised to safe it. Increase and assist the truck on jack stands under the body.
4. Set up the 2 bolts and nuts on either finish of the crossmember and tighten with a socket. Set up the versatile dip stick within the transmission and fix it to the highest proper bolt on the transmission bellhousing or to the back of the cylinder head.
5. Take away the nuts from the rag joint using a wrench. Separate and raise the steering column and set up the driver’s facet header with the column passing through the header. Quickly bolt the header to the top with two bolts to carry it in place. Reinstall the steering column and set up the nuts within the rag joint and tighten with a wrench.
6. Set up the header gaskets and headers. Tighten the bolts with a wrench. Set up the radiator and tighten the bolts with a socket. Set up the transmission cooler traces into the radiator and tighten with a wrench.
7. Set up the floor shift. Drill a gap two inches in front of the floor shift with a drill. Make the outlet giant sufficient to pass the shifter cable via. Move the shifter cable by the outlet and set up the shift cable bracket to the driver’s facet of the transmission through the use of the transmission bolts to safe it to the transmission pan. Tighten with a socket.
8. Set up the transmission shift lever and tighten the nut with a wrench. Proceed to finish the set up from right here on within the regular method. Take the truck to a muffler store and have the exhaust put in.
